It's a hazy Thursday morning in Seoul. Just two more days till the Koreans major holiday break called Chuseok. It like Thanksgiving/Christmas/Day-Of-The-Dead all put together. The actual day this year is on the 25th. It's family time and that includes all dead ancestors too. Much praying to spirits and feasting goes on in the morning. I will probably at my boyfriend's father's house. Being one of the very few foreign women with a Korean boyfriend I am in a bit of a special position here. Experiencing the inside workings of such a closed culture is quite a privilege. Will blog about it when it's over.
There is an International Mask festival in Andong (3 hours South of Seoul) from the 28th. Chris co-teacher and I are planing to spend a fun weekend down there. If it happens blog update with photos sure to follow. "Watch this place"...:o)
The ususal heaps of evals. (monthly evaluations)are waiting for me. Now the management requires 5 or more words for each student. I had a strugle writing even two for some of the skids; "Amy doesn't speak in class and she doesn't do homework therefore I am unable to give feedback on her progress." or "X is clearly ADD/dyslexic who needs special needs classes, not English academy"....No I did not write this one...I'd be fired.
I've rearranged my room so now there is this nice big space in the middle. The move was inspired by a new board game SeungWan and I bought last weekend. It's called Hotel King, a Monopoli type of game that needs space. Yes, no I will never grow up.
Which reminds me; KoL (Kingdom Of Loathing)is so funny. I've been playing it for a couple of days now, laughing my head off. The humour is somewhat reminescent of Discworld and Hitchhikers' guide. The quests are funny. The addictiveness is curbed by 40 adventure limit per day which is a blessing.
Yesterday I was hug-mobbed by my kindergarden students. Dunno what got into them. I was comforting sad Sera with a little hug when the other kids decided they all want a piece of me. Belive me, the weight of eight little monsters is considerable. It's cute but I gotta be more careful next time not to get cornered like this again. :o)))
I'm getting fat and I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm a girl! ;o) Food consumed daily at restaurants or bars with beer is not getting worked off enough by repeating basic English phrases. So now, finally at my ripe age I know what 'lovehandles'are...:o) and I don't like them. Outdoor fun and energy expenditure of any kind is prohibited by relentless rain that's been pouring with short intervals now for 7 weeks.
Jeju that pretty island we went to in July (see Jeju Travelog)has been severely damaged by some Typhoons lately. The area had the most rainfall since record begun about 80 years ago. Landslides killed several people and much of the pretty farmlands are gone. So sad! :o( Moving there may not be such a good idea afterall.
